The Humano Progresso Brasil Association has been running the Giovanni Paolo II Educational Centre in the favela known as ‘Novos Alagados’, in Salvador, Brazil, since 2011.
The Centre welcomes around 500 children and young people between the ages of 6 and 18 free of charge on a daily basis and offers them a safe and beautiful place to grow up in harmony with their fellows, accompanied by adults who offer them the opportunity to become protagonists of their lives.
In order to attend the Centre, all pupils must be enrolled at school. The educational activities are divided as follows:
The teachers are all university graduates and teach Portuguese, mathematics, science, English and help the children with their schoolwork.
Our pupils receive lunch, which is often the only full meal of the day.
At the end of the educational activities, the children can participate in some sports activities (five-a-side football, handball, basketball, capoeira, karate) on the beautiful sports field.
In addition to educational and sporting activities, many educational activities, cultural trips and recreational activities are also offered.
